Flight Plan

Design an aircraft

Step 1

Design the RC aircraft! Remember to Journal Everything with hour counts in your GitHub Repo, make a file named Journal.md.

Submit the design

Step 2

Submit the design through the form linked above and select Design Review.

Order parts

Step 3

Order parts for the aircraft (we will reimburse you upto [To be determined] per hour you spend designing).

Build the aircraft

Step 4

Build the aircraft. (remember to track your time through lapse, it will be used to give out flight wings).

Ship the aircraft

Step 5

Ship the RC aircraft (you get flight wings for building it!) (select Build Review in the form).

Claim rewards

Step 6

Claim your rewards by filling out the rewards form!

Ship an aircraft, earn your flight wings and free stickers!

FAQ's

Is this all for free?

All of this is completely free to participate in however we may not completely cover the price of the aircraft! We will still try to provide partial or full grants for you to build your aircraft.

Do I have to CAD model?

Yes — it is an important skill for all designers and engineers alike.

What kind of aircraft can I build?

You can build any kind of aircraft your heart desires — it just has to fly!

When does this event end?

There is no confirmed start or end date yet, but we hope to launch soon.

Where can I ask for help?

If you need help while designing or building your aircraft, ask in #throttleup on hackclub slack.

How old do I have to be to participate?

You need to be between the ages of 13-18 inclusive!

Can hackatime banned individuals participate?

To be determined

Do I have to journal?

Yes! Everyone must journal their RC aircraft within their GitHub repo, please do so.

Is this program beginner friendly?

This program is designed for the beginner! We don't judge you based on how good-looking or how well flying your design is, as long as your design flies you should be able to submit it for prizes!

Where can I find guides on how to design/build RC aircraft?

Youtube channels such as Flitetest and Tail Heavy Productions offer a bunch of knowledge on how to design, make and fly your RC aircraft.

How many wings can I get per hour of work?

The current rate is [To be determined] per hour you spend building your aircraft.
